The many religious buildings provide many sights of interest for enthusiasts of architecture through the ages. These include: Ayios Ioannis Cathedral (1662), Chrysaliniotissa Church (1450), Omeriyeh Mosque.

The latter was converted into a mosque in 1571 by Mustapha Pasha, who claimed that the 14th century Augustinian church of St. Mary's, was built where the prophet Omer resided while visiting Nicosia.
