Tourist Guide Paralimni
Paralimni, in Cyprus, is the largest town in the south-eastern Famagusta District in the Greek-controlled half of the island. The city’s population grew rapidly after the Turkish Invasion, which saw several Greek Cypriots flee the northern half of Cyprus. Today, there are more than 11,000 people who call Paralimni their home.
The summers here, as with the rest of the country, are hot and dry. The island’s Mediterranean climate makes for warm and wet winters. Spring, with temperatures around 24°C is the best time to visit Paralimni.
The city used to stand between its present location and the town of Dhernia. Paralimni means ‘settlement by the lake’ as the city was originally built on the banks of a shallow lake. In the early twentieth century, the entire lake was reclaimed for agriculture.
