Tourist Guide Platres
Platres, a village in Cyprus, is located on the southern slope of the Troodos Mountains in the Greek-controlled half of the island country. The mountain range stretches across most of the western half of the island and has Mt. Olympus as its highest peak at 1,952 m. Platres is situated at an altitude of around 1,100 m and is centred on the Pano and Kato roads.
The Mediterranean heat and humidity does not affect Platres. Unlike the rest of Cyprus, summer, when the temperature is between 24°C and 28°C, is the best time to visit; April and May are the best months to visit if you plan to walk a lot.
In 1881, Platres had only a 100 inhabitants. Since, this population has only increased to around 250. In August, around 10,000 tourists visit the town. The town’s economy centres on tourism but a few engage in fruit cultivation.
