The Akamas Peninsula contains a network of nature trails with a waterfall and pool, which legend says is the place where the goddess Aphrodite hid to escape her suitors.

Another tourist favourite is the Vouni Panayia Winery Hike that takes you past the Chrysorrogiatissa monastery that sells its own wine all the way the Vouni Panayia Winery for a tasting.

Humus, salads, mezze and haloumi are regulars on every menu. Make sure to specify the level of sweetness in your after-meal coffee as glykos (sweet), metros (medium) or sketos (unsweetened). The Araouzos tavern does not offer a menu. But the mezze and the red wine makes up for lack of service etiquette.

The Greek Orthodox Easter is the town’s most important holiday and special meals, candle-lit processions, fireworks and other festivities are organised. Another important holiday to plan around is the Cyprus Independence Day on 1st October.
