Vimperk: Attractions and more...
There is a portion of the Vimperk Castle that has survived from around 1195 and merits a visit. It also houses a museum and the headquarters of the Šumava National Park.
The Church of Our Lady of Visitation, founded in the 13th century, and a stone column bearing a sculpture from the 16th century are examples of architecture worth seeing.
The main festivals and events held in Vimperk are the Cross country ski race and a traditional Czech Shrovetide Carnival in February. An International Car Rally in February/March, Mountain Bike races in April/May, a brass band show in June, the Beerfest and rides on an old steam train through the Šumava during the weekends in July-August, the International Puppet Festival in August, the Town Festival in September and the International Festival of Animal Films in October will keep tourists enthralled no matter when they visit.
