There are no major health risks in the Czech Republic. There is a small risk of tick-borne encephalitis in rural and forested areas. This is an infection of the brain spread by tick bites. Those visiting such places should avoid tick bites by wearing full-length trousers. Vaccines against this disease are available and are highly recommended. Lyme disease is spread through deer ticks and is common in late spring and summer. Having a thorough tick check after venturing outdoors can prevent the disease.

Immunisation against hepatitis A and B and rabies is advised. Medical insurance is recommended. UK nationals are entitled to free medical care on production of a UK passport.

Czech Republic is one of the safest countries in Europe. There are no major threats to the health and safety of the travellers. However, caution against petty crimes, such as pick-pocketing and bag-snatching, must be maintained.
