Originally named “Stone Bridge,” the Charles Bridge is a well-known and historic one that crosses the Vltava River in Prague. Constructed in the 1400’s, this bridge was the primary route from Prague Castle to Old Town, thus making it an important place for business in the Czech Republic.

As this wide stone bridge is a serene and romantic setting at night, it also bustles with activity during the day. It is a popular hub for vendors and artists to sell their products to locals and tourists alike. It is also home to several other kiosks and portable businesses that are entertaining and useful to travelers that are new to Prague.

As the Charles Bridge has endured the centuries, it has seen its fair share of historical events. In the early 15th century, the bridge was damaged by a large citywide flood. During the Thirty Years War, much of the combat took place on this bridge, as Swedish invaders attempted to storm Prague Castle. In memorial a long and illustrious history, the Charles Bridge also features several Baroque statues of political figures important to Prague.

As this bridge is such a necessity to touring the city, you are inevitably bound to cross it and learn more!
