Its construction started in 1357 under the auspices of King Charles IV and got finished in the beginning of 15th century. This bridge used to be the most significant connection between the Old Town, Prague Castle and the adjacent areas until 1841. Originally called as the Stone Bridge, or the Prague Bridge, it has been named as Charles Bridge since 1870. This bridge is 516 meters long and 10 meters wide. It rests on 16 arches shielded by ice guards and protected by three bridge towers. These towers are known as one of the most astonishing civil gothic style buildings in the world.
