Dating back to the ninth century, the castle is an architectural delight with the first important building to be built in the complex being the Church of Our Lady.
The castle has been through several destructive fires and wars with subsequent renovation. Today, it is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for being one of the world’s biggest castles.
Representing almost every architectural style of the last millennium, it includes the Romanesque Basilica of St. George and the gothic St.Vitus Cathedral along with the National Gallery housing a collection of Bohemian art.
Prized possessions of the castle are the Czech Crown Jewels which are permanently preserved here and occasionally displayed. They consist of the St. Wenceslas crown and the Royal Apple.
