The castle of Strakonice is a good place to start one’s visit in this city. The 14th century wall paintings are exceptionally beautiful. The castle also has a museum that displays utensils and tools used for gold digging. It is an early gothic castle rebuilt in a renaissance style.
One can also visit the church of St. Margaret and the church of St. Prokop, a Romanesque building with a triangular ground plan and the Town Hall from 1820 with sgrafitto paintings by Mikoláš Aleš.
The city also has a replica of Stonehenge, a picturesque square and several interesting buildings and bungalows.
For music lovers, there is the Biennial International Bagpipe Festival held in Strakonice.
Make sure you try the food at the Hradni Sklipek restaurant. It also has an excellent wine room. And a visit to the Strakonice brewery is always an exciting option.
