The Thorvaldsen Museum is situated at Porthusgade 2, DK-1213 in Copenhagen and is open daily from 10 to 5 except on Monday and other national holidays.
The museum building has a Neo-classical style and was built between 1839 to 1848 by architect Gottlieb Bindesboll.
The museum lies to the north west of Christianborg Palace and displays work of the greatest Danish sculptors namely, Bertel Thorvaldsen, who lived from 1770 to 1844.
The exterior part of the museum, facing the canal, has frescos depicting the return of Thorvaldsen from Rome in 1838. The museum also preserves some of the private collections of this popular artist.
After the death of this renowned artist he was buried in the inner courtyard of the Thorvaldsen Museum in September 1848.
