Kalvebod Fælled, also known as Vestamager, takes up roughly one fourth of the island of Amager, near Copenhagen
The area was dammed and drained in the 1940s to reclaim land from the sea, with a number of former islets making up small isolated hills, and was originally used as an artillery training range. After active military use ended in 1983, a motorway and a railway have been built upon it, as well as a golf course. Most of the area, however, remains a lightly maintained parkland featuring a range of nature types, from young forests to tidal marshes; some areas are prevented from developing into forests by grazing livestock and game.
Because parts of the parkland history, it is not a freeroming park for visitors. A large area in the southwestern corner is also set aside as an EU Bird protection area, to which the general public has no access.
