Most of the holidays begin in spring. The Queen’s birthday is celebrated in April with much fanfare.

Denmark is home a number of music festivals that are held throughout the year. The Aalborg Jazz festival, in June, features free concerts for around four days.  The Riverboat Jazz festival also takes place during the month. The Roskilde Festival is one of the largest rock concerts in all of Europe. Other popular musical events are the Midtfyns Festival in Ringe and the Copenhagen Jazz Festival.

The Viking festival and the Sonderhodog celebrate Viking heritage and culture. The Tønder Festival, one of northern Europe’s largest folk festivals, is held at the end of August. The Århus Festival, lasting almost two weeks in September, is a platform for theatre, concert and sporting events.
