Herning’s most curious attraction is renowned sculptor Ingvar Cronhammar’s unique creation, ‘Elia’, which is a gigantic black dome with a 60 metre-wide diameter. In the centre of the dome is a gas burner which shoots a gas flame, controlled by a computer, in the air at regular intervals.
The Messecenter Herning is Scandinavia’s largest exhibition centre and serves the town well for the numerous trade fairs held here through the year. Danmarks Fotomuseum showcases the origin and development of photography and cameras.
Classensborg Estate is an old estate which now houses a hotel and an education facility. But, its grounds are open to the public and are a popular attraction in the spring because of the array of rhododendron shrubs.
Kunstmuseum, the museum of art, is housed in what used to be a textile factory. Art by renowned Danish and foreign artists are displayed here.
