Following the footprints of the past.
Scattered around the countryside of East Jutland, you will find old castles and manor houses. Enjoy the romantic view of towers and steeples when you drive by - or make a stop at one of the castles, which welcome you into its glorious halls. At Gl. Estrup the stories of the old manor house come to life, and from here there is only a few kilometres to the old ruined castle at Kalø, which stands proudly on top of its hillock at the end of Denmark's oldest road from the Middle Ages.
Architectural and artistic adventures await in the roman churches, built by skilled stone masters nearly 1000 years ago, and if you wish to let your thoughts wander in the footsteps of the monks, the monastery of Øm is an enriching frame.
You will experience a more physical challenge if you climb Himmelbjerget on
foot. And if you reach the tower on the top, which was constructed in the memory
of the first Danish constitution, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view
of the Danish Lakeland.
