The old Bishop's castle, the town’s most impressive structure, is the venue for open-air concerts and theatre in summer. It houses the massive St. Nicholas Dome Church which is built in a mix of the Roman and Gothic style.
The Promenade is ideal for a walk along the seaside and a view of the sea. The city’s assembly hall, the Kuursaal, and a bird-watching tower can also be found here.
In August, the White Lady Festival is held in honour of Estonia’s ghost. Legend has it that the White Lady appears at a window in the Dome Cathedral. Plays and concert performances are also held at the castle during the festival. During summer, several music festivals such as Old Music Festival, Violin Plays and August Blues Festival are also held.
The Railway Museum summarises the history of rail travel in Estonia. The old station, nearby, has a 214 m long covered platform. A memorial bench dedicated to Tchaikovsky has been built such that it plays his music.
