Finland does not have any health hazards. The main problem in winter is the cold, but one can keep warm by dressing in layers. Travellers are recommended to register their whereabouts with the authorities if heading out into sparsely populated areas, so that they can be traced if lost.

Note that the European Adder (a poisonous snake found mostly outside urban areas of Finland), will not bite unless frightened by humans. Also, wear dark trousers when walking through tall grass or else you could contract Lyme’s disease (spread through tick bites).

Punctuality is a cherished virtue in Finland. The Finns also have a relaxed attitude to manners, so don’t expect many ‘Pleases’ and ‘Thank Yous’ in return.  

It’s best for rash drivers to be cautious as speeding tickets in Finland are based on one’s income. The country is a safe place to travel and has a low crime rate. Being the home of Nokia, there aren’t many public telephones except at the train stations!
