Sibelius-Akatemia (The Sibelius Academy) is the only music university in Finland and one of the biggest in Europe. At any given time it has approximately 1 400 students with 180 full-time teachers and about 300 part-time masters in the background, making this one of the premier centres of musical excellence in education to be found anywhere in Europe.
For the short or long-term visitor there are various ways of interacting with this prestigious and physically beautiful institution. Numerous seminars and conferences are held for those with a professional or advanced amateur interest. While for the rest of us laymen the results of this work can be seen and heard in concerts, which are numerous: the Academy contributes to the concert life of the metropolitan area with several hundred concerts every year.
