In the Old Town, one can spot the ruins of St. Mary’s Church and the old Appeal Court. Falander-Wasastjerna, one of the mansions that survived the fire, has been converted into a museum.
The chain of islands off the Vaasa coast is a haven for birdwatchers and nature lovers. The Valassaaret Lighthouse in the area is one of the most interesting lighthouses in the country.
The neo-Gothic-styled Vaasa church is renowned for its unique altar pieces. The Brage Open Air Museum replicates structures and interiors of farmsteads from the early nineteenth century.
The Vaasa Market Hall, a shopper’s delight, has 20 stores which sell a range of wares from local products to international ones and handicrafts to food items.
The neighbouring village of Sundom is worth a visit, especially for the crater that was created by a meteorite. Its diameter measures almost 6.5 km and it is 300 m deep. There is also a unique mill in this village.
