Hotel Barge Saint Louis offers to its guests an innovative way to enjoy the unspoilt French countryside, of the south-west, gliding in total relaxation on a 19th waterway in a luxurious and very comfortable barge.
There are two itineraries to choose from – Montauban to Agen, and Agen to Bordeaux. Everything is included in the cruises, from transfers to excursions, from fine food and wine to a well-stocked open bar. The crew of four (for up to six guests) make sure that this is truly a very special experience for the guests.
Half of each day is spent cruising on the canals, an unmissable experience offering great scenic beauty and total relaxation. The other half of the day is spent doing excursions, bring taken by a skilled and knowledgeable guide to a wide range of superb venues of the region – mediaeval villages, ancient abbeys and chateaux, producers of fine foods and wonderful wines, and a very wide range of other attractions.
For guests who like to be more active, bicycles are carried on board and can be used to explore the surrounding countryside. Or, guests can go ashore when the boat is in a lock, and walk along the towpath to the next lock.
The cruise is all inclusive, and the food onboard is a delight in itself. The Chef bases the cuisine on traditional recipes of south-west France, with the best of ingredients purchased daily. Some recipes come from further afield, and it is said that her pavlovas are to die for! This great culinary experience is matched by savouring the wonderful wines carried on board. Don’t forget that Bordeaux is world famous for its wines, and the Saint Louis prides itself on the quality of the wines that are served.
