Abbaye aux Dames
Abbaye aux Dames is a former abbey which is situated in Caen in Normandy in north France. It is the home to the Conseil Regional de Basse Normandie. It also includes the church which is known as the Eglise de la Sainte Trinite. The abbey was founded in late 11th century by William the Conquerer and his wife Matilda. The façade has two large towers on the sides, each having doors leading to the aisles. This historic building is a great example of Romanesque style of architecture. The church was part of an abbey dedicated to the Trinity, a place for nuns to live and pray. The abbey also has a six part vault.
