Tourist Guide Chartres
Chartres, just a couple of hours’ drive from Paris, is a small town in the centre of France. It is an important market town in the plain of Beauce, known as the granary of France. It has a population of approximately 40,000 inhabitants.
Chartres enjoys a temperate climate. The average temperature during the summer months is 25.5°C, while during winters the day temperatures hover around 8°C. Chartres sees moderate rainfall, but it is evenly distributed throughout the year; winter months witness maximum rainfall.
Chartres became a destination for pilgrims in the sixth century. They believed that a veil owned by the Virgin Mary was preserved in the town cathedral. This increasing number of pilgrims added to the prosperity of the town.
