The Citadel of Besancon is situated in Franche-Comte in France. It is known as one of the military architect, Vauban ’s masterpieces. The Citadel occupies eleven hectares on Mount Saint-Etienne, which is one of the seven hills protecting Besancon. The Citadel overlooks the old quarter of the city and offers a magnificent view of the city. Its construction started in 1668.
