Rouen: Attractions and more...
Any time of year is great to visit this beautiful city. In June the city has nice weather, very lively, not completely swamped with tourists.
The main interest of the city for tourists are located in the centre. Here you can find “Notre Dame Cathedral” erected in gothic style, which contains the tomb of Richard the Lionheart ; the cathedral was the subject for many paintings by Claude Monet who painted the cathedral at different times of the day.
Other gothic buildings are: the “Church of Saint Maclou” , the “Palais de Justice” and the “Tour Jeanne d’Arc”, the place of the old market. The “large Clock” is composed of a stone arch and surmounted of a house in wood.
Rouen has also very beautiful museums as the “Museum of the Art Schools” with a focus on impressionist paintings. The “Jewish Monument” testifying the Jewish presence in Rouen.
Most Normand dishes are prepared with cream sauces and apple flavouring. The rich local milk makes excellent cheeses as “Camembert”. Typical dishes are “Canard a la Rouennaise” (duck in sauce) and “Duck pate”.
Rouen enjoys a very moderate climate thanks to Oceanic influence, with average annual temperatures comprised between 8°C and 15°C.
