The Arc de Triomphe
The Arc de Triomphe is a monument in Paris which stands in the centre of the Place Charles de Gaulle, which is also called as Place de I ’ Etoile. This monument is known as the largest triumphal arch in the world and forms the depicts the impressive urban ensemble in Paris. It is said that this arch was commissioned by Napoleon to pay tribute to the French Army and its construction began in 1806. Its original architect was Chalgrin and after his death, the work was continued by Joust. However, in 1814, the construction was stopped after the defeat of Napoleon. In 1833, the work began again and was completed by Blouet, whose name is engraved on it.
