Montparnasse Cemetery is locally named as Cimetiere du Montparnasse. This site is the third largest cemetery in Paris opened in 1824. Here, one can find the tombs of Charles Baudelaire, Simone de Beauvoir and Jean Paul Sartre. It is believed that the cemetery was created from three farms in 1824 and was originally known as Le Cimetiere du Sud. This Cemetery is the eternal home of many intellectual and artistic elites of France. There are monuments dedicated to police and firefighters killed in the line of duty in Paris. As there are lots of notable French and international people buried here, it is a popular tourist attraction in Paris.
