The Grotto of Massabielle where the Virgin Mary is supposed to have been sighted by Bernadette is thronged by visitors day and night.
La Source, the spring with water which is believed to miraculously cure all diseases, is located near the grotto. Don’t leave Lourdes without a drink of water from the famous spring; it is collected in reservoirs and available in cans or plastic bottles.
The Basilica of Pius X with a capacity of 20,000 people is one of the largest churches in the world. The museum dedicated to Ste-Bernadette and her childhood home are especially popular with pilgrims.
