Toulouse is popularly known as ‘Ville Rose’, or pink city, owing to its distinctive red-brick structures. It is quite small and easily explored by foot.
The Basilique St.Sernin is the most visited site in Toulouse. Rich in history, this Romanesque church is said to be the best of its kind in Europe; the crypt and the cloisters possess some very unique features.
The Cathedral of St.Etienne is considered unique because it took six centuries—from the eleventh to the seventeenth—to be built; it thus imbibes a combination of various architectural styles.
The Musee des Augustines houses several magnificent pieces of art and sculpture. Its unique feature is a monastery which has been preserved as it would have been in the Middle Ages.
La cite de l’espace, a science theme park, is a must visit for a space enthusiast. It has full-size models of rockets and space stations; a planetarium and several exhibits explaining various phenomenon of space.
