When to visit

Set in the heart of southwest France, Midi-Pyrénées is known as the largest region in France. Along with downhill skiing, the region is worth visiting for ample other opportunities like cross country skiing, snow shoeing, ice climbing and dog sledding.

This is the region having something to offer all year round. For Botanists, the best time to visit is spring when in late June and early July, the place is filled with lush valley meadows strewn with endless wild flowers. The climate is sunny and cool, perfect for cycling or walking, with Spate Rivers, an exciting time for enjoying water sports activities.

The temperature in summer is warm, with cool breeze mountains, rushing streams and calm mountain lakes, to take a dip after a hard climb up. This is definitely the preferable time for paragliding, caving, white water rafting, and mountain biking and walking.

Autumn (mid September to October) are also a 'best time' to visit too, for this time of the year, the valleys are bright with colorful leaves turning every shade of yellow, red and orange. One can enjoy the quiet trail, with late blossoming plants crowded with beautiful butterflies.

Winter is yet another best time to visit Midi-Pyrenees as the unknown ski resorts are quieter than the Alps, and the prices too are cheaper. This time (last weekend of November to mid April), is the time to visit the largest resort of this region, either the Tourmalet resort or the Bareges-La Mongie resort. This region receives more snow as compared to the Alps and the climate is mild without the bitter January temperature.
