Exotic Garden and the Observatory Cave
This "extraordinary garden", abounding with several thousand "succulent"
plant species, was inaugurated in 1933. Audaciously planted on the rocky mountainside,
thriving superbly, it has become the object of worldwide admiration. This garden
is the Kingdom of Nature's exuberance, and of its surrealistic oddities.
Sixty metres underground, a prehistoric cave unveils its spectacular limestone
concretions formed during thousands of years!
The Animal Garden
Set on the southern side of the Grimaldis' Rock, HMS Prince Rainier III founded
this garden in 1954. It shelters some two hundred and fifty animals belonging
to roughly fifty different species: exotic birds, black panther, white tiger,
hippopotamus, reptiles, primates, lemurs… Their comfortable living conditions
are quite exemplary
Japanese Garden
As a stylised copy of Nature, with its mountain, its hill, its cascade, its
beach, and its brook, this amazing park, 7000 m², is an authentic work
of Art realised inthe strictest respect of the compactness concept of the Zen
School of Thought. An exceptional Park at the city's feet, this garden is tinged
with a particular atmosphere and harmoniously combines stone, water, and vegetation.
Fontvielle Landscaped Park and Princess Grace's Rose Garden
A small lake lined with olive and palm groves, covering four hectares, offering
a pleasant and serene atmosphere. In this district of Fontvieille, while strolling
on a pedestrian path one may discover numerous contemporary sculptures. Princess
Grace's Rose Garden offers a calm and serene area fragrant with the scent of
approximately 4,000 rosebushes.
The Casino's Gardens and Terraces
Uphill from the Casino, a formal "French" Garden with its lawns and
magnificent fountains can be found next to the "Little Africa" Garden,
with its exuberant plants. Downhill, sunny terraces lead to "Hexa Grace",
an astonishing, multicoloured work of Art by Vasarely, overlooking the Sea.
Saint-Martin's Gardens
These gardens hang on the southeastern side of the Rock; they are laced with
paths, lazily winding along the crest. It's a thriving ground for wild Mediterranean
flora and for a rich display of exotic species. Here and there can be found
the luxury of Nature, classical works of Art, or a pond
Princess Antoinette's Park
Its majestic entrance is decorated with a spectacular curtain of Bougainvilleas.
It is the kingdom of the sacred olive tree. This natural site was probably the
meeting place for our ancestor's Sunday reunions and other celebrations; it
has become an amusement park dedicated to children of all ages
