Things to Do in Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais: attractions to See in Calais

Calais: Attractions and more...

Calais is mostly a stop for those in transit, but the city does boast of a few interesting sights. The town centre is built around the magnificent Town hall which can even be spotted from the sea. The famous statue ‘Les Bourgeois de Calais’ stands opposite the Town Hall and is a statement of the town’s heroism and sacrifice. A war museum is contained in a small park and makes for interesting viewing as it once served as military headquarters for German.

Cote d’Opale is parallel to the English coast, and Cape Blanc Nez and Cape Griz Nez are the two renowned cliffs along the coast.

St. Omer, a quiet and attractive town in the vicinity, is unique for the Flemish influence on the architecture of the city which is reflected in its Town Hall and other mansions.

Not too far away from Calais is La Coupole, a bunker converted into a museum, and Blockhaus at Eperlecques, the largest concrete bunker by the Germans; both are stark reminders of World War II.
