The main attraction of Amiens is the Amiens Cathedral which is a world heritage site. It is the tallest Gothic church in France and was built in the 13th century.
Amiens is knows for its small garden islands or hortillonages on the marshlands of the Somme River. The islands are surrounded by inter linked manmade canals.
Other towns of interest close by are Beauvais, which is most famous for its cathedral of Saint Pierre, and Cambrai, known for its fine art museum and town square.
Around November, Amiens hosts an international film festival. This is usually a showcase for the works of new filmmakers. In addition, the Amiens Jazz Festival is an annual event held around March.
Culture seekers would enjoy visits to the Musee de L’hotel de Berby. On display are objects and art dating back to the eras of Kings Louis XV and Louis XVI. The Musee de Picardie is known for paintings and sculptures that are centuries old.
