The Amphitheater of the three Gauls was built around 1 AD before the Romans came to Lyon. It derives its name from ancient role of Lyon as capital of the three gauls, Lugdunensis, Aquitania and Belgica, the three regions of Roman. This historic site was part of the federal sanctuary of the three Gauls which dedicated to the cult of Augustus and Rome and was celebrated by the 60 Galiic tribes who gathered at Lugdunum.
