Tourist Guide Tignes
Tignes has five villages, namely Val Claret, Le Lavachet, Tignes le Lac, Tignes-les-Brevieres and Tignes Les Boisses, all of which are part of Tignes.
Originally, Tignes village was in the Isere valley. Post Second World War, with arising need of electricity in France, a decision was made to build a hydroelectric dam in the valley. The dam construction completed and the village of Tignes was submerged in the year 1952.
The elevation of Tignes is 4,700 to 12,300 feet. The total land area is 31.52 square miles.
The population of Tignes is 2,212 inhabitants as per the 2006 census.
Tignes has a pleasant climate with long warm summers. However, the climate affects the routine life here, as it can be extreme, during the winter season.
