Tours: Vacations and Tourism

Tours, in the centre of France, is a town of over 137,000 inhabitants. The people here are known to speak French in its purest form, that is, devoid of any regional accent. The city is flanked by two rivers and is laid with several parks; it has thus been nicknamed, ‘the garden of France’.

Tours’ mild climate ensures a long tourist season from March to the end of October. June to September is the best time to visit with the day temperature averaging at about 23°C. Winters are not too severe with the average temperature at 7°C–8°C. Rain is unpredictable in this region as it rains almost all year round.

From being an important pilgrimage site in the third century, to a flourishing silk manufacturing town in the middle ages and to serving as the capital during the Franco-Prussian war, Tours has had a very colourful past.
