One of the most impressive monuments is the red-stoned Minster Cathedral with its towering spire, which offers a great view of the city. It is located on Munsterplatz, the city’s largest square and the site of the daily farmer’s market. The Augustiner Museum displays a huge art collection including religious paintings and valuable relics. The Schlossberg Lookout Tower is built on a hill in the centre of the city on the top of the ruins of a medieval fort.
The longest cable car in Germany carries visitors at the top of the Schauinsland Mountain. The region is ideal for walking trails or hiking and cycling trips. Germany’s highest waterfall at Triberg, just outside the city, is also a great spot for nature lovers.
The Freiburg Carnival is celebrated in keeping with the original traditions. The citizens of the city dress up in colourful traditional costumes and dance and parade on the streets.
