Marienplatz is situated in the heart of the city and in the Middle Ages; this square was used to be a market place and the place wherein the festivities and tournaments used to take place. This square was originally known as Schrannen and was renamed as Marienplatz as a way to ask Virgin Mary to protect the town from a cholera epidemic.
