| Attractions |
The construction of the Altes Museum began in 1825 and ended in 1828; however, the museum was opened to public only in 1930. Designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, it is based on the design of the Greek Stoa, Athens. The building is surrounded by a palace with a large garden, a river and a cathedral. The building of the museum houses two courtyards, a drum and a rotunda. There are statues, vases, antiques and sculptures decorating the interior of the museum. The museum is also the oldest as well as the largest public building in Berlin. All these reasons together account for making the Altes Museum a must see.
The museum has a collection of artworks from Greek and Roman eras. The Bust of Queen Nefertiti is one of the greatest attractions at the museum. |
