Checkpoint Charlie was the name given by the Western Allies to a crossing point between West Berlin and East Berlin during the Cold War. It is in the Friedrichstadt neighborhood that was divided by the Berlin Wall. Although the wall was opened in 1989, the checkpoint remained an official crossing for the foreigners and the diplomats until the German reunification in 1990 and the guard house was removed.
