The Reichstag building in Berlin was actually constructed to house the Reichstag, the first parliament of the German Empire. This historic building got opened in 1894 and housed the Reichstag until 1933. This building was severely damaged in a fire, and was reconstructed in 1999. It dates back to the Holy Roman Empire and has ceased to act as a true parliament in the Nazi regime from 1933 to 1945.
