Altona is the westernmost urban borough situated in Hamburg. Founded in 1535 as a village of fishermen, it was one of the most important harbor towns of the Danish monarchy until 1864. At present, this neighborhood is the prime destination of major railway station, Hamburg-Altona, which connects the local rapid transit with local bus lines and regional railways. The Altona Museum is worth visiting for it has many historical and cultural displays to see. One can even visit the Altona Fist Market, held each Sunday, to experience the atmosphere of stalls selling flowers, souvenirs, fresh sea food and many such items.
