Goethe House is the residential house of the Goethe family who lived here from 1733 to 1795.
Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe who was born here in 1749 wrote about his childhood memories in his autobiography 'Aus Meiner Leben', which means 'Out of my Life'.
He lived here with his sister Cornelia till the age of sixteen after which he left to study law.
He was an intelligent writer and one sees the city of Frankfurt through his eyes in his work called Truth and Fiction.
Frankfurt has changed remarkably since then, but, Goethe House still stands on the narrow cobbled street which leads to the City's Council and the Cathedral on the Main River.
Opposite stands the excavated Jewish ghetto near the old Jewish graveyard.
The house changed ownership many times and it was Otto Volger who renovated it, bringing it back to its original condition.
The Goethe museum stands opposite the house and is open to the public as is Goethe House.
