Willingen is located in northern Hesse, Germany. It is a small community of Waldeck-Frankenberg. Towards west of the community at a distance of 80 km is the city of Kassel. It is also known as Willingen Hochsauerland and Willingen (Upland). Towards the is the Hoppecke and towards east is Itter between which is nestled the Willigen. The town shares borders with Diemelsee, Korbach, Medebach, Winterberg, Olsberg and Brilon.
The population of the town in 2006 was 6515 and consisted of Bömighausen, Eimelrod, Hemmighausen, Neerdar, Rattlar, Schwalefeld, Usseln and Welleringhausen. The commune came into existence in 1974. It was a part to the Free State of Waldeck till 1929 after which it became a part of Prussia.
The place consists of a healthy climate suitable for a taking a break as well for adventure holiday. Due to this the place has become one of the favorite holiday destinations amongst tourists.
