Tourist Guide Bochum
The German city Bochum is located in Northern Rhine - Westphalia state. Cities like Essen, Hattingen, Dortmund and Herne in the Ruhr area surround the city. The traces of the habitation in the city trace back to the 9th century.
The town came into limelight when industries like steel and coal mining emerged in this area. Since then, these two industries became the major source of income for the people in the city. However, later on the economical load was taken by the car making industry, after the mines closed down.
According to the 2006 census, the population of the city is about 376, 586 people. Bochum received the town status in the year 1321.
Unlike any other city in Germany, this city experiences maritime climate. Summers are warm, while the winters are chilly. Moving in and around the city is extremely easy due to the well- established network of transportation.
