Binnenalster is also called as one of the 2 artificial lakes which are situated within the city limits of Hamburg. It was formed by the Alster River and the main festival which is carried out at Binnenalster is the annual festival of Alstervergnugen. This lake has an area of 0.2 square kilometers. Binnenalster was the part of the lake which was inside the city walls. The lake was original created for serving as a reservoir for a mill.
