Moving around - Duesseldorf

Düsseldorf has an excellent transport system with buses, trams and subways which are run by the Rheinbahn Company which is situated opposite the central station.

The layout of the routes can be viewed on the internet. Purchase tram tickets from ticket machines situated at tram stops or on the trams, but this facility is not available for buses and trains.

Individual tickets can be costly but one can avail of group tickets which can work out to be reasonable. Always buy a ticket as there are random checks and one may have to pay a heavy fine if caught without a ticket.

A ‘Zone A’ ticket purchased for a group can be useful for tourists wanting to move around the city and one can get more information about this from the tourist information centre.

The Düsseldorf international airport is close to the city and be easily reached by metro rail and road.
