Roman structure

Porta Nigra gate is the most popular of the Roman edifices in this city.  The construction is of weathered and huge sandstone blocks and is colossal. The interior of the Constantine’s Basilica comprises of a large single room that has been preserved since ancient times. One can also view the imperial baths and explore them below the ground. These were a section of the largest bathing complex in the Roman Empire. The venue of the Antiquity Festival in modern times is the Amphitheater which is located at the foot of Petrisberg Hill. In the past, it held crowds of almost 20,000 who used to cheer the animal and gladiator combats.

Zurlauben

An attractive and small spot on the Moselle River is the Zurlaubener Ufer. In the past, this was a fishing village. A majority of residences in this place date back to 1800 and till date this place has preserved its traditional character. Currently, several lively cafes and restaurants can be seen coming up in this place.

Cathedral and Church of Our Lady

The architecture and art of the present cathedral in Trier dates back to more than 1,650 years. At this location, the palace of Emperor Constantine was built in the past and some of its remains are still extant. The Church of Our Lady adjoins the Cathedral. It was constructed in the 13th century and is the earliest Gothic Church in the nation.
