Saarbrucken is the capital city of Saarland in Germany. The city resides in the heart of a metropolitan area that stretches westwards towards Dillingen and eastwards to Neunkirchen which is the major part of residence in this city. Saarbrucken is an industrial and transport centre in Saarland. In the German language Saarbrucken means bridges, as the city has about 10 to 15 bridges constructed across the Saar River. The name of the town originated from the word Brucca, which was later on converted to Brocken. The average temperature ranges around 18 degrees during the daytime. The winters are often cool with temperatures around 1 to 2 degrees. The city is extensively spread out with a total area of about 65 square meters. There are many festivals which are celebrated with enthusiasm throughout the year. A recent census in December 2006 recorded a population of around185000 people in this area.
