The ‘Gewandhaus Orchestra’ can be dated back to around 250 years. 16 Leipzig merchants went on to find and finance a ‘concert society’ that has created history in the world of music since then; thereby having become one amongst the most famous orchestras. This group schedules around 70 Grand Concerts in the city at the time of each season. It has also executed the task of serving as ‘house orchestra’ of Leipzig Opera since the last 2 centuries.
