The main city closest to the geographical center of Germany is Erfurt. It is situated 180 kilometers towards the Southeast of Hannover, 150 kilometers towards the North of Nurnberg and 100 kilometers towards the Southwest of Leipzig. Towards the southern part of the city lies the hilly forest of Steigerwald. Erfurt in located in the southern region of the Thuringian Basin, within the wide valley of River Gera. This city is on two federal motorways called as Bundesstrabe. One is Bundesstrabe 4 which stretches from Nordhausen in the North to Ilmenau in the South. Second is Bundesstrabe 7 which extends from Weimar in the East to Gotha in the West. Most of the parts of the city are connected by seven tram lines. There is railway service from Erfurt station to Berlin, Frankfurt am Main, Dresden and some other cities.
